LOCAL TRAINING COURSE

Local Event on How to Address Energy Poverty

In the last week of March 2025, @UNIVPM @DIISM @EnergySystems@UnivPM hosted local training under the “POWERINGCITIZENS” project, dedicated to addressing energy poverty.

We explored the far-reaching impact of energy poverty through expert-led speeches, interactive workshops, thought-provoking discussions, and collaborative exercises. This critical issue leaves millions unable to afford essential energy services such as heating, cooling, and electricity, deepening social inequality while posing significant health and environmental risks.

The training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to analyze the root causes of energy poverty and develop innovative, community-driven policy solutions. By centering the voices and needs of those most affected, we examined actionable strategies to create more equitable and sustainable energy systems.

Highlights of the local training included:

  • A deep dive into the complexities of energy poverty, addressing challenges related to affordability, accessibility, and energy efficiency.
  • Collaborative policymaking sessions where participants crafted solutions tailored to local and regional needs.
  • Citizen-centered approaches that highlighted the power of public engagement in advancing sustainable energy initiatives.
  • Practical strategies for community-driven energy solutions, focusing on renewable energy adoption, energy efficiency, and citizen-owned energy models.

We also highlighted innovative solutions, including the development of renewable energy communities and new renewable energy projects that empower individuals and neighborhoods to take control of their energy future. Case studies from across Europe and the Balkans provided valuable insights into scalable and impactful strategies.

This initiative emphasized the vital role of citizens in transforming energy systems and shaping policy decisions. By fostering collaboration between communities, experts, and policymakers, we can build a unified approach to tackling energy poverty and accelerating the transition to sustainable energy.
